Modest increase in the number of cross-border commuters during the 2nd quarter 2017

10.08.2017 - According to the Cross-border Commuter Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), in Switzerland, a total of circa 322'028 foreign cross-border workers (of which 64.4% men and 35.6% women) were working at the end of the 1st quarter 2017. The number of foreign nationals crossing the border to work in Switzerland rose by 1.3% during the 2th quarter 2017 over the previous quarter. Their total number increased by 3,5% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

More than half of the cross-border workforce lives in France (54.8%). A little less than a quarter lives in Italy (22.8%), a fifth in Germany (19.2%) and 2.6% in Austria.
